Mindsets to renew your mind

Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. — Romans 12:2 (NLT)

As new creations in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17), our way of living should reflect Christ’s image, which may differ from the world’s norms.

As Christians, we are encouraged not to worry, as stated in Philippians 4:6. Instead of being anxious, we can pray and trust God to give us peace during life’s challenges.

First Corinthians 2:16 tells us that we have the mind of Christ, giving us access to God’s wisdom, discernment, and peace in all circumstances. This enables us to make decisions guided by His perspective and live with confidence and clarity. Joyce Meyers describes 3 types of minds, but I am sure you can find even more by studying the Word of God.

  • The Made-Up MindColossians 3:2 (AMPC) encourages us to focus our thoughts on heavenly things rather than earthly matters. By aligning our minds with God’s will and purpose for our lives, we can overcome indecision and trust in the guidance of the Holy Spirit to make sound choices without overthinking.

  • The Humble Mind: Philippians 2:5 (AMPC) Encourages having the same humble attitude as Christ Jesus. A humble mind brings peace by trusting in God’s timing and guidance, and avoiding constant questioning and judgment of others.

  • The Focused Mind: We are surrounded by distractions in this modern age. The constant influx of information from technology, media, and the fast-paced world can be overwhelming. Instead of waiting for the world to change, I have decided to change my approach. I am focusing on staying present and fully engaged in whatever task I am doing, rather than allowing my mind to wander or multitask.

Ephesians 4:23 (AMP) says to be continually renewed in the spirit of your mind [having a fresh, untarnished mental and spiritual attitude]. Choosing to focus on God’s Word and spending time with Him in prayer will keep you on track, one day at a time, in your journey of healing.

We need to change our thinking about…

God. We must understand the true nature of God. He is not wrathful or severe, but rather gentle, kind, and compassionate (Matthew 11:30 AMPC). God’s love for you is immense! Knowing this love gives you hope that positive changes can be made in your life.

Ourselves. If you struggle to accept yourself, it can impact all aspects of your life. Instead of striving for perfection, remember that nobody is perfect. We often feel like we fall short in various areas such as prayer, work, or studying the Bible. This is where the grace of Jesus comes in. In Christ, there is more good in you than bad, and you can accomplish anything with His help. (2 Corinthians 5:21John 15:5Philippians 4:13).

Trials, or the hard, painful things we go through in life. James 1:2-4 (ESV) encourages us, saying:
Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. — James 1:2-4 (ESV)

The level of importance we put on what others think about us. The significance we place on the opinions of others can greatly impact us. It is common to allow the actions and words of others to influence us, leading us to feel that our day is ruined if someone does not like us. However, prioritizing pleasing people over pleasing God can hinder us from fulfilling our true potential and following His purpose for us. (Galatians 1:10).
