Trauma Wounds
“Trauma” is an umbrella term that encompasses a vast array of experiences and feelings. Broadly speaking, trauma is an experience that is disturbing to such a degree that it interferes with our ability to cope.
“Trauma is not what happens to you; trauma is what happens inside you as a result of what happens to you.” Gabor Mate
Trauma is a wound that has not fully healed which can be triggered at any point in our life so it matters that we are able to find a common ground and stay firm in what can give us healing, emotional stability, and happiness.
Wounds You’ve Accumulated
Not one of us comes through life unscathed. Satan and his kingdom of darkness make certain of that. Jesus never promised we would not get wounded while living in this sinful messed-up world. In both large and small ways, we’ve all been hurt.
The origin of the word ‘trauma’ is the Greek word for ‘wound’.
Trauma wounds are when there is a loss of feeling and there is a reduced flexibility in responding to the world. This is a response to a wound. Trauma can cause feelings of hopelessness, guilt, shame and panic. Trauma is also not only about what happened to people but also about what didn’t happen, in terms of neglect, abandonment or a general lack of safety in childhood.

What’s under the surface in your heart will continue to define you until and unless you deal with it. All the little addictions you use as Band-Aids to cover up the junk only work for so long. When you’re sick enough of the dysfunction and ready to deal with your stuff, how do you do that?
Trauma can impact the six key areas of your life. These areas are:
- Spiritual
- Relationships
- Emotional health
- Physical health
- Career
- Finances
Facing the truth of what happened is a very courageous step. Many people walk in denial throughout their life, postponing the healing that is available in truth and awareness. Facing the truth is about discovering how you were impacted. The clearer you become about truth and the impact, the more you can transform the wound into healing.
